Terrestrische Bio-Geo-Chemie

Für eine verbesserte Vorhersage zukünftiger Umweltbedingungen ist es essentiell die Auswirkungen von anthropogenen Aktivitäten auf die biogeochemischen Kreisläufe von Kohlenstoff (C) und Stickstoff (N) und den damit verbundenen Austauschprozesse zwischen terrestrischen Ökosystemen, der Atmosphäre und  Hydrosphäre zu verstehen.
In unserer Abteilung verwenden wir einen integrierten Forschungsansatz, bestehend aus Prozess- und Feldstudien, sowie der Nutzung von Beobachtungsdaten zur Entwicklung und Validierung von Prozessmodellen. Diese skalenübergreifende Arbeit ermöglicht uns, die Auswirkungen von Veränderungen des Klimas, der Landnutzung und des Landmanagements auf gekoppelte C- und N-Prozesse von der Standort- bis zur regionalen Skala besser zu charakterisieren und zu quantifizieren und Landnutzungs- und Landbewirtschaftungsstrategien zu identifizieren, die es ermöglichen

  • land- und forstwirtschaftliche Systeme an den Klimawandel anzupassen, und
  • den ökologischen Fußabdruck landwirtschaftlicher Systeme durch Treibhausgasemissionen und Nährstoffverlusten in die Umwelt zu reduzieren
